Suryalila Yoga Retreat Centre is in the heart of Andalusia, Southern Spain with an international reputation.
I have had the pleasure of working here since 1st September 2016, offering bespoke massage treatments, blending deep tissue, myofascial, craniosacral bodywork, thai massage techniques and energy work to enable release of a range of muscular issues, chronic pain and conditions and facilitating emotional and traumatic release.
I am also privileged to be part of the yoga teaching team, delivering yin yoga classes for the wonderful guests, staff and volunteers and yoga nidra meditation classes, themed to suit the group and phase of the moon.
Suryalila is nestled serenely in a large open valley in the foothills of the Sierra de Grazelema. This majestic mountain range can be seen looming large on the horizon behind Suryalila. A striking part of the natural beauty of the property is the breathtaking vista extending in all directions: rolling hills, fields of sunflowers, and lakes. The sense of vastness and expansiveness is very uplifting.
Suryalila is a beautiful old renovated olive farm consisting of eight houses that form the cortijo. In typical Spanish style there are two inner courtyards, one of which blooms with orange and lemon trees. The property sits on 45 acres of land and is still a working olive farm with 350 olive trees. We also grow organic vegetables and fruits and keep chickens for eggs.
The word ‘Suryalila’ is a composite of two Sanskrit words. Surya refers to the ancient sun god and lila means cosmic play (of the gods). Together the words mean “Cosmic Play of the Sun”. The mission statement for Suryalila reads: ‘all who come here we offer an experience of profound beauty, wholesomeness, wellbeing, human warmth, respect and care. This is expressed by our authenticity, wholehearted dedication, and careful attention to providing an environment where individual guests and group leaders feel nurtured and supported. We are guided by integrity, openness, kindness, happiness and love’.
I have been invited (and accepted) to extend my stay till the middle of February 2017, so will keep you up to date with the unfoldings here and my likely return date to the UK. Do keep an eye on my facebook page: The Quiet Way for photographs and in the meantime, here are a few to enjoy!
Please do keep in touch, I love to hear how you are (the new email address is: firstname.lastname@example.org)
