Healing Hands in Bosnia, 2011

The Sarajevo Tunnel was an underground tunnel constructed between March and June of 1993 during the Siege of Sarajevo in the midst of the Bosnian War and we heard many stories of people going back and forth, at great risk, to bring food and water back to their families in the city. To visit the site brings a chill to the bones. A short video is shown in the museum connected to the tunnel with footage taken at time. I defy anyone to watch it without crying. What the people of this city and country endured is heartbreaking and to know that such atrocities continue to be committed around the world leaves me speechless.

Working with Healing Hands Network charity remains the most profound experience of my career and drives my passion to offer therapies in this setting. It is not all doom and gloom, we laugh with our clients and lighten their load. That the citizens of Bosnia remain dignified, at peace and carry themselves with such grace is an inspiration to us all.

Fundraising is always hard work and we had to raise £750 towards the cost of our 2 weeks ‘tour of duty’ in Sarajevo, each year. I was fortunate to have the support of my local community in Reading, Berkshire and local press we always at hand to offer coverage.
