Promotion saw me move from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust to being Senior Complementary Therapist and Service Manager for the UCLH complementary therapy service at the Macmillan Cancer Center, UCLH NHS Trust in London.
This was a short term contract covering a career break and gave my a great opportunity to both expand my clinical skills to working with paediatrics and teenagers and their families. I love this element as it gave me a chance to connect with the wider family of the patient and help to ease their anxiety too. As we know a cancer diagnosis rarely affects just the person diagnosed tending to have ripple effects around family and friends.
Being responsible for the service provision, research and development, training and managing a team of staff was great and I learnt so much from this role. I thoroughly enjoyed working in collaboration with the wider cancer services team and designing services to fully support the patient and their family.
Whilst my time with the NHS has been invaluable, I am very pleased to be back in private practice, setting up The Quiet Way, drawing upon all the skills and experiences I’ve picked up along the way. My knowledge base and skills form a wide underpinning base and I thrive when I am able to utilise all in order to ease suffering. Onwards and upwards!
